Moderate skepticism: electric cars are definitely not more harmful than diesel cars
Electric cars pollute the environment by 11-28% more than comparable diesel cars. Such a loud statement was made a month ago by a group of German scientists, which attracted a lot of media attention in Germany.
However, their “research” was quickly refuted by real experts and qualified as unscientific.
It all started when Hans-Werner Sinn published an article (in German) on CO2 emissions from different energy sources. In the press release accompanying the article, which was included in the media, it was indicated that “electric cars are not a panacea for climate protection”, and the meaning of the article itself was that electric cars are more harmful than diesel analogues. Electric cars are becoming more attractive and affordable. For example, the cost of batteries has fallen by about 80% over the past ten years. Volkswagen ID.3 is an electric car that costs exactly the same as the equivalent Golf TDI. In addition, buyers can apply for a government grant, and operating costs for an electric vehicle are lower. This is due to the fact that electricity costs less than gasoline and diesel, a lower tax is charged, and the maintenance and maintenance costs are only about a third of the costs of cars with conventional transmissions. Charging infrastructure of Ukraine does not keep up with the growth of the number of electric vehicles
The infrastructure for electric vehicles, and primarily charging stations, is developing more slowly than the number of electric vehicles is growing. This applies to all countries where electric cars are an important component of the total traffic, including Ukraine.
